Inspiring portrait of dancer Ahmad Joudeh, now a Dutch ballet star.
This screening will be followed by a Q&A with the dancer himself, Ahmad Joudeh.
From a refugee camp in Damascus to the world’s most prestigious ballet stages, The Dancer traces the extraordinary journey of Ahmad Joudeh, a courageous artist who risked everything to move freely, both in body and spirit.
Condemned for being free, threatened by extremists for dancing, and abused by those closest to him, Ahmad’s story is one of defiance, resilience, and purpose. Now an internationally recognized artist and the first certified ballet master from an Arabic background, Ahmad returns to Syria with a dream: to uplift a new generation of dancers.
Powerful and deeply human, a testament to art’s ability to transcend fear, reclaim identity, and build peace through movement.

Gilgamesh: The Opera invites audiences into a world where legend becomes living art. Ancient words carved into clay tablets thousands of years ago gather breath, voice, and movement once again in this operatic retelling of the Epic of Gilgamesh. A reminder that courage, grief, and the pursuit of legacy are timeless – echoing across centuries, and deeply, unmistakably human.

An exceptional performance and encounter with Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh to explore art, exile, and reconstruction.
The performance presented by Ahmad Joudeh is part of a cultural and artistic project dedicated to the challenges of culture and education for refugees and migrants. It is not merely about analyzing the journeys of exile, but about creating a space where lived experience meets research, where art becomes a vehicle for knowledge, and where the voices of those directly affected take center stage. Such a project fully illustrates the responsibility of academic institutions, which, in a global context marked by forced displacement and identity divisions, have an essential role to play in fostering dialogue between knowledge, experiences, and voices, and in ensuring the social impact of research.
